2019 McLaren 720S Spider
Underpinning the brilliance of the mid-engined McLaren 720S is a Formula 1-style carbon-fibre tub moulded in one piece including the roof pillars. That gives the McLaren astounding structural rigidity, crucial for consistent handling and crash safety. This level of strength also means this version of the car, with its retractable roof, is as rigid as it would be with a fixed hardtop roof, thereby maintaining its handling abilities.
The 720S also makes use of McLaren’s ingenious linked-damper system where all four dampers can communicate hydraulically to maintain a flat stance on the road, regardless of cornering speed. The system also does away with anti-sway bars, so as well as reducing roll and pitch, the 720S exhibits an uncannily refined ride quality given its otherwise uncompromising set-up.
Race derived tech
Power comes from a four-litre version of McLaren’s trademark twin-turbocharged V8 engine, backed up by a seven-speed clutchless manual transmission. A dry-sump lubrication system for the engine underlines its race-derived specification.
This car features the optional Luxury Pack and has tan leather seats (with electric operation) carbon-fibre interior trims pieces and a Bowers and Wilkins sound system. Other additions specific to this particular car include a sports exhaust, specially painted brake calipers, lightweight, diamond-cut wheels and an optional white exterior finish.
Ceramic brakes, Bluetooth connectivity, adaptive dampers, LED lighting, launch-control, Multi-function screen, paddle-shifters, navigation, stainless-steel exhaust, lightweight alloy wheels, retractable roof.
