2015 Maserati GranCabrio MC
Inspired by the MC Stradale model, Maserati’s GranCabrio MC takes the best of race-car technology and mixes it with the cool luxury of a proper drop-top sports car. The Pinninfarina-designed convertible makes a true GT mission statement and is one of the most exhilarating ways to travel long distances. Or short ones.
The MC (Maserati Corse) treatment extends to the way the car looks as well as how it performs, namely in the use of a dual-clutch 6-speed transmission in place of the conventional automatic in other GranCabrio variants. By adopting this technology, the convertible can shift with incredible accuracy and speed, maximising its performance potential.
Tuned To Perfection
Speaking of performance, the 4.7-litre Ferrari-built V8 is normally aspirated and produces not just plenty of power and torque but also an exhaust note widely regarded as the most tuneful of all the supercars. Maserati was also careful to create near-perfect weight-distribution for this car, too. As a result, the engine is mounted well back in the engine bay – behind the line of the front axle – to create what is referred to as a front-midship layout.
The Maserati’s other major selling point is that it is also a true four-seater, and while it doesn’t use a folding metal roof, the multi-layered soft-top it does have is both simpler and lighter than a folding metal arrangement.
