2017 Ferrari California T
Better and Better
Fine tuning a chassis for greater handling and grip is a sure fire way to improve any performance car. But when Ferrari does it to a car that was already a stunningly dynamic piece of equipment, you can be sure the results will be something else. Which is exactly what happened when you ordered your Ferrari California T with the optional Handling Speciale package as the original purchaser of this car did.
The first step in the Handling Speciale treatment was a stiffening of both ends of the folding metal-roofed convertible. The spring rates at the front and rear were substantially increased and the dampers were re-valved internally to further increase roll stiffness and reduce body roll. Even then, Ferrari didn’t stop there and made changes to other areas of the California T to make the most of the new cornering abilities.
Louder and More Aggressive
The seven-speed dual-clutch transmission came in for revision with sharper, faster shifts when the driver selected Sport mode. Even the exhaust note was revised to better match the new-found aggression, with a louder, more forceful tune to play.
The Drop Top
The things that didn’t change, however, were just as important including the metal-roofed convertible’s dual nature (secure, hardtop coupe or cruisy drop-top) and the shattering performance from the new-age turbocharged engine that manages to combine ferocious horsepower with the sort of flexibility that was once only available in engines boasting huge displacement. In fact, it’s this breadth of ability that stamps the California T as one of Ferrari’s finest moments in its modern history.
