2018 Ferrari 488 GTB
The Rolling Stones didn’t become a music industry icon by being an ordinary band. Nor did Levis jeans or Ray Ban sunglasses or Coca-Cola struggle against any shortcomings in their design or execution. Brands and products that rise to the top usually do so on merit. And sometimes, it’s simply enough to accept conventional wisdom and go with the acknowledged yardstick in a particular pursuit.
The Classic Formula
And when the subject turns to Ferrari road cars, then there are definitely times when bright red Rosso Corsa paint, a hardtop coupe design, mid mounted engine, and a classic black interior are just perfect. Which is exactly what this car represents. It doesn’t attempt to shake up the establishment by being different: It simply taps into the classic formula and emerges as a truly desirable piece of rapid transit.
Not Just a Road Car
Of course, beyond the stylistic elements, this is just as technically advanced as any Ferrari road car of the last few years, including a twin-turbocharged V8 engine that highlights the efficiency and flexibility gains inherent in modern turbo motors. For instance, as well as a rippling 492 kW of power, forced induction has resulted in a torque peak of a massive 760 Nm. Even more impressive is that this peak occurs at just 3,000 rpm with the bulk of that number being available from idle through to redline.
In Perfect Condition
This car is presented with minimal kilometres showing and features a few well-chosen factory additions including grey stitching on the interior, front and rear parking sensors, a yellow-faced tachometer, black, forged alloy wheels, Scuderia shields and a front end lifting system which gives the 488 the ability to deal with life in the real world of driveways and speed humps.
Features include: Carbon-fibre steering wheel, front end lifting system, reverse camera, front and rear parking sensors, selectable drive modes, red brake calipers, black sports forged-alloy wheels, keyless entry and start, navigation, dual-zone climate-control, cruise-control.
