2018 Ferrari 488 Spider
It’s often said that the clearest, most concise, easily understood situation is one that is black and white. Which must mean that this car leaves nobody in any doubt about its capabilities nor its purpose. The superb white exterior speaks for itself, while the factory-option (RIFS) wheels in matte black are a contrasting touch. And against all that white, this Ferrari 488 Spider is fitted with a classically black interior while various parts of the car have been augmented with a range of carbon-fibre accessories to maximise that stark contrast.
The carbon-fibre additions extend from the rear air-ducts to the side air-splitters, and from the central wheel-caps to the under-door sill-plates. And the two-tone theme doesn’t stop there with a carbon-fibre steering wheel featuring an LED rev-indicator contrasting with the white-faced tachometer. White Cavallinos are stitched into the black leather of the seats which are the fully electrically-adjustable versions.
Giving the turbocharged V8 some extra bark is a factory sports exhaust and a suspension lifter protects the front of the vehicle. Front and rear parking sensors and a reversing camera add an extra layer of safety.
The 488 Spider, meanwhile, uses the mid-engined 488 as its basis, but adds the duality of a folding metal roof to bring the best of all worlds to the vehicle. Think of it either as a convertible with supercar performance or a supercar with the ability to go topless. Which ever way you choose to approach it, one thing remains: It’s all there in black and white.
