2018 Ferrari 812 Superfast
If ever an engine defined a whole car, the 6.5-litre V12 nestled into the engine bay of the Ferrari 812 Superfast would have to be a contender. But the magnificent V12 is also proof that newer isn’t always better. Or, more accurately, that an old idea can still have legs in this modern world.
At a time when the automotive world was moving to hybrid drivelines and smaller-capacity engines with turbochargers to boost their output, Ferrari refused to budge with the Superfast and endowed the big two-seater with nothing less than a huge V12; essentially a stroked version of the engine in the F12 that the 812 replaced. And if that sounds like it might have made for a compromised end result, think again: The Superfast was Ferrari’s most powerful, fastest road-going model in the company’s rich history. Enzo Ferrari is often recalled claiming that his customers paid for the engine and got the rest of the car for free. The Superfast is the embodiment of that sentiment.
Maranello on Wheels
Not that the rest of the 812 is anything but a thoroughbred. In fact, with its front engine and rear-mounted transaxle, the car has near-perfect weight distribution. The two-seat cabin is spacious and comfortable and the rest of the package is Maranello on wheels. That extends to the four-wheel-steering system which allows the 812 to use a very fast-ratio steering rack, yet not at the expense of high-speed stability. Carbon-ceramic brakes are another nod to the supreme speed potential of the 812.
This car is presented with less than 12,000 km on its odometer and in the stunning colour combination of metallic grey over tan leather. It is also fitted with a range of Ferrari factory accessories.
Features include: Yellow brake calipers, adaptive headlights, suspension lifter, front and rear parking cameras, special interior stitching, Alcantara interior highlights including headlining, yellow tachometer, carbon-ceramic brakes, dual-zone climate-control, navigation, Bluetooth connectivity, selectable drive modes, paddle-shifters.
