  • Designed to Perfection

    Designed to Perfection

Aerodynamics represent perhaps the last frontier for dynamics engineers when it comes to road cars. Most recently, that has come to mean an adaptation of active aerodynamics – where the car can alter the airflow over its body to its advantage – is the new cutting edge.

  • Fine Example

    Fine Example

The Huracan Performante is a perfect example of that, as well as a lesson to designers not to allow a concept to become stale. For instance, the brand could easily have left the Huracan concept as it was. With 426 kW of power, the Huracan was hardly lacking in the momentum department, but Lamborghini was never going to leave it at that.

  • Raising the Game

    Raising the Game

Enter the Performante; a powered-up version of the all-wheel-drive, mid-engined monster with an aero package that, at the time of its launch, made it the fastest normally-aspirated production car ever to lap the Nürburgring. Powered up? How does a full 470 kW of power and 600 Nm of torque sound, all from a 5.2-litre V10? And since it does not rely on forced induction, the exhaust note – especially with the Performante’s sports exhaust – is a spine-tingling howl that simply cannot be faked or generated electronically.

  • The Party Trick

    The Party Trick

But the Performante’s real party trick is its aero package which Lamborghini claims accounts for a huge downforce increase over the standard car (and the secret to its Nürburgring lap time). In this case, the active aero package means the car can control its rear wing (and other aero elements) on a side-to-side basis, actually using what amounts to aero-vectoring to turn and remain stable at crazy velocities. With less than 4,000 km showing on the odometer, this example is instantly collectible and one that shouldn’t be missed by those who value ability and exclusivity.
