2015 Alfa Romeo 4C Launch Edition
Sports to the core
Less than 100 Launch Edition 4C models were sold in Australia to celebrate the arrival of Alfa Romeo’s pure-to-the-core sports car. Tipping the scales at a feathery 1,025 kg and with near perfect balance courtesy of a mid-mounted engine, the 4C has the DNA of a Ferrari-like super sports car but at a fraction of the cost.
There is also an addictive, arcade-game feel about this car with its exposed, woven carbon fibre tub, low seating position, high sills, exposed metal door trims and compact digital dashboard that looks like it belongs in an F1 car.
The baby Alfa oozes a modern and playful exuberance yet at the same time promotes back to basics driving with no power steering and ’80s style rotary dials for some of the controls. A hi-tech and low-tech fusion… and it works perfectly.
The Launch Edition is special because it adds ingredients to an already tasty go-fast recipe, namely: racier suspension tune for the anti-roll bars and dampers, larger wheels (18-inch front, 19-inch rear) wrapped in Pirelli P Zero rubber, microfibre sports bucket seats and many eye-catching carbon fibre trim pieces.
Finesse and prowess
The fact this car can generate 1.1 G of cornering force is testament to both its finesse and prowess. Best bang for buck performance car on the planet, we say.
