1974 Ferrari 365 GT4 Berlinetta Boxer
Wonderful Ferrari history
In Blue Dino on Nero, this Melbourne delivered 1974 Ferrari 365 GT4 BB (Berlinetta Boxer) with just 25,911 miles on the odometer, is a wonderful piece of Ferrari history and a definite must inspect for the astute collector.
The rarest of all
The first ‘Boxer’ was the 365 GT4 BB shown at the 1971 Turin Motor Show. Designed to rival the Lamborghini Miura and the newly developed Lamborghini Countach at the time, it was finally released for sale in 1973 at the Paris Motor Show. Just 387 were built over the lifecycle, of which 88 were right-hand drive, making it the rarest of all Berlinetta Boxers.
The engine shared its internal dimensions with the V12 from the Daytona, but was laid out to a flat 180 degrees configuration as on Ferrari’s 1970 Formula One car and was mounted above a five-speed manual transmission. With the engine cover raised, the compact flat 12 is fascinating to behold with the parallel lines of Weber carburettors rising like mini metal smoke stacks over each bank of cylinders. And then, of course, comes the sonorous metallic thrum from the six tailpipes each time the throttle is blipped. Bless you, Ferrari.
This vehicle has been sympathetically restored and has been submitted to Ferrari to gain its Classiche for authenticity and certification.
