2013 Ferrari 458 Spider
Blue sky babe
Combine the brutal, aurally engaging rapture of the Ferrari 458 Italia with the ability to swap a black roof for a blue sky in 14 seconds and you have one of the most revered modern-day Ferraris.
The 458 Spider gives nothing away to its fixed top sibling when it comes to performance – both nail the 0-100 km/h spring in 3.4 seconds – but the Spider offers the flexibility and enjoyment of open-top motoring at the touch of a button.
And let’s face it, there’s only one better way to enjoy the guttural growl of the 458’s big-lunged naturally aspirated V8, and that’s with the lid off.
Speaking of which, the retractable hardtop roof is itself a clever piece of engineering – made entirely of aluminium, it tips the scales at 25 kg which is less weight than the soft roof featured on the Ferrari F430 Spider.
This 458 Spider has a deliberately understated presence on the road. Its low-slung black body sits on spidery 20-inch forged grey wheels to bury itself in traffic, but will bring instant attention with a prod of the right foot and resulting angry bark from the sports exhaust. The front spoiler lift system also makes for pretty easy daily driving.
Some neat, predominantly yellow design elements – including brake calipers, wheel caps, Scuderia shields and tachometer – create a bit of Ferrari flair to what is otherwise a stealth super sports car that flies low and fast under the radar.
This low-km example offered through Victoria’s only authorised Ferrari dealer still enjoys free scheduled servicing through to October 2020.
