2017 Porsche 911 GT3 RS (991)
The 991 iteration of the GT3 RS is the first of the non-limited edition Porsche GT3 cars to gain the acclaimed 4.0-litre naturally aspirated engine. To commemorate the move to the 4.0-litre powerplant the road racer was launched with two bold additional exterior colour choices – Lava Orange and UItra Violet, offered here.
The 911 benchmark
It looks crazy, sounds crazy and drives like crazy, resetting the benchmark for Porsche GT 911s. There are three areas of marked improvement over the regular GT3 model it is based upon: increased downforce, reduced weight (by 10 kgs) and genuine race-car handling.
Pushing the limits
The RS’s limits are pushed so far it is almost too much car as it requires drivers of supreme skill and commitment to get near its limits. What’s the point of a 911 GT3 RS if it does not scare you to death, right?
One-piece carbon-fibre bucket seats adopted from the 918 Spyder keep you firmly in place when g-forces want to push you out through the carbon-fibre door inserts, while the engine when urged towards its 8,800 rpm red line has the wail of a banshee. Few Porsches – let alone GT performance cars – offer this level of insanity and entertainment all at once.
Less than 1,000kms
This example presents as new with less than 1,000 kms covered by its sticky Michelin Sport Cup tyres, measuring 265/35 on 20-inch alloys at the front and 325 mm at the rear on 21-inch wheels – wide enough to cover the grass on any suburban nature strip.
